ABB is a technology leader in electrification and automation, helping to build a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.
With a history of excellence that began more than 140 years ago, ABB’s 105,000 people worldwide are committed to driving innovations that accelerate industrial transformation. Technological leadership, global presence, and strong local expertise are the defining elements of a comprehensive offering of products, systems, and services that enable businesses and infrastructures to improve their operations in terms of productivity, energy efficiency and sustainability.
Established in 1988 through the merger of two historic European industrial entities, Sweden’s ASEA and Switzerland’s Brown Boveri, ABB further strengthened its Italian roots with the acquisition of iconic companies in the Italian electromechanical scene such as Tecnomasio Italiano, Elettrocondutture and SACE. Today ABB is active in Italy with more than 5600 employees, 8 production sites, and sales exceeding 3.1 billion euros with an export share of 63 percent.
ABB’s manufacturing footprint in Italy is an example of how technology and sustainability can merge expressing manufacturing excellence on a global scale. Three of these factories (Frosinone, Santa Palomba and Dalmine) in 2020 were awarded Lighthouse Plant recognition under the Transition 4.0 Plan launched by the then Ministry of Economic Development. This recognition places ABB’s factories as an example of digital transformation and innovation in a strategic manufacturing sector such as the Italian electromechanical industry.
Continuing a history of innovation of more than a century, today ABB is leading the energy and digital transitions by putting sustainability at the center. All of ABB’s Italian sites use exclusively energy from renewable sources as early as 2019: this approach is complemented by a commitment to help its Customers and Suppliers avoid their annual CO2 emissions of 600 MegaTons by 2030 through the application of ABB products sold between 2022 and 2030
With our electrification and automation technologies, we support businesses and cities to operate at high performance and become more productive, efficient, and sustainable so they can excel. We call this: ‘Engineered to Outrun.’
